1st gen V70R wagon, high mileage but with an awesome color combo. Didn’t realize that a two-tone interior was ever available. Quick Google search says that they were a very rare option for the 2000 model year R’s only. Neat
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Anyways, what say you? Would you roll the dice for $3k?

As far as I can tell anything remotely interesting that runs and drives has to be considered NP, or at least competitive with the market, at $3k in Seattle.

NP! N ot because it’s a good idea, but because I can’t turn down a green R wagon at any price.

Those miles concern me. And I’m a guy with a 260 k mile BMW.

Is this the wagon you were traveling to get?
![]() 01/22/2019 at 00:14 |

No no. I'm getting one with a manual transmission. Saving this one for you

Look up sub-$3000 trucks for some real laughs

NP for sure. Drive it until it dies.

You’re either a good friend or you hate me. Not sure which.

I know -- I've bought six vehicles in that price bracket

You are a brave man. I’ll give you a ride home on our Leavenworth drive

Don't worry. I'm catching up. You'll have company soon

That's the one drive where I don't think I could take anything other than the Miata, outfitted in fresh summer tires

NP NP NP! If this had been on CL in my area when the Lexus broke down, I probably would have bought it. Holy wow!

“ survivor of the Seattle commuting battle” doesn’t exactly scream “meticulously maintained and well cared for ” to me. 2000 Rs came with a lot of good stuff, but they also came with the problematic 5 speed auto and ETM. It's not a car I'd buy for more than $1,200 without a big stack of receipts.

*looks for places to store more Volvos*

Hi. I owned a 2000 V70R once. It was a bit of a legend around here.
Don’ t. Just don’t.

NP just on the color alone

On second thought, the first four characters on the license plate are “ANUS”, so definitely buy it.

When I bought my heavily modified high-ish boost 850 wagon it lasted a grand total of 7 days... Before blowing a camshaft seal due to a clogged PCV valve. My body is ready.
I would love to get feedback from those who’ve owned both these AND P2 R wagons. Curious which one is more likely to destroy my financial well-being

The answer depends on whether or not you're stranded on the side of the road at any given moment. Something, something, schrodingers cat

I think I need to give you veto powers on any and all Volvo purchases I consider

I've seen a green R in person and it was drop-dead gorgeous.

Buy it now!

If it hasn’t sold next weekend I may go check it out and play the rediculously low, lowball game

Ha! Maybe that’s not best since I vetoed my own Volvo purchases... :/
I’m not an expert, but when I like a car I obsess and research it to death. That's what killed my current R dreams. It's not a good time in my life for a high-maintenance daily.

You’ll end with a good one eventually.
It was FWD and non-turbo, but I still beat myself up over not flying to Idaho and picking this one up. I think it sold for $1000...

I’m surprised it took this long to find a comment that pointed that out.

Unless it’s 90s Mopar, then they’re hella cheap and in great shape.
I need to fly out and pick up a few things.

That would need a hell of a PPI for me to bite. The one year only transmission would make it nerve wracking.

I would never condone such a purchase...
DO IT!

Guy in my building has the teal with the baseball leather tan interior. Odd combo but goodness it just works so well.

How low of a price until you didn’t care about potentially catastrophic issues? I’m guessing a manual swap is a bit more than plug-n -play?
![]() 01/22/2019 at 17:07 |
|
The problem with a manual is that without the M58 (I think that’s the trans number) it won’t be AWD and that transmission was only offered in Canada and maybe Europe? Im sure you can source one but I would guess it may be pricey. I would have to price a replacement transmission before I knew what a good price would be for the car. The engine I had in my 98 T5 Manual was out of a 2000 R Design and it’s a great motor.

I’ve stared at those seats for probably 5 minutes now, they are glorious.
![]() 01/23/2019 at 15:54 |

The best part? Those were some nasty, 4/10 seats that the owner decided to dye. First time trying it and look how good it turned out! I'm definitely considering doing it to my own seats, same colors and everything

no shit.... It does look great, haha. They dy e the leather?
![]() 01/23/2019 at 16:45 |

Yep! They dyed the Leather AND the Alcantara. They used BMW dye colors. I've got the forum post saved somewhere...
